There is something about string instruments that stir the soul and seeing a live orchestra, up close, is a real treat. Especially when the musicians are really talented.
We were contacted by the leader of the De La Warr quartet and asked to send a couple of our entertainment correspondents along to The Albion pub in Hastings where they were playing their Spring concert. The programme included works by Vivaldi, Puccini, Piazzola and Mozart and the venue had a cosy feel about it with the normal lagers and ales on tap but also some local craft beer and ciders if you fancied something a little different.
This old town pub has gone through a few stages of renovation in its time and recently the place has been spruced up with restorations to the dark wood floors and ceiling which have been painted. The inside has had some attention too with a lot of the old furniture gone, replaced with items of fancy giving the whole place a minimalistic feel.
The quartet comprises of two violinists, a viola and a cello with all musicians having performed in the UK and internationally at a professional level.
The music was delightful as was the price at only £10 a ticket.
