With 2.5 miles of sandy beaches, plenty of places to eat and drink and some pretty good shopping to boot, Tenby is definitely one of our favourite places to visit in South West Wales. These pictures were taken on a sunny day in July, with the temperatures up to the mid twenties.
We were surprised at just how much there was going on here. There are two massive beaches, the north beach and the south. When we arrived the tide was in and the harbour was full of the sea but it did not take long for it to empty to reveal all that sand! There are boat trips taking visitors on a little bit of island hopping and to see the local seals, loads of places to eat and drink and some really nice little independent shops selling everything from clothing, Welsh jewellery, pies made with Welsh lamb, local fudge, local beers and ice creams. All of this set inside a beautiful 13th century medieval town with a lovely little harbour and an island hill fort.
We happened to arrive in the morning at around 9:30am when it was fairly quiet and managed to get a parking space quite easily, and just as well, as by 11:30, the place was buzzing. It got busier as the day went on but never got too busy. We took some time out to stroll across both beaches when the shopping and the eating of pies and ice cream got too much which was lovely and really cooled us down. There was also a nice breeze down by the sea, which was nice after the hustle and bustle in the shops looking for bargains.
Parking charges were not too bad at £5.00 for 10 hours (or £4.00 for 4 hours). We ended up leaving Tenby at around 4:30pm with big smiles on our faces on what had been the best day yet in Wales.
